MCareMD : What we treat

What is this?

Hight blood pressure, otherwise known as hypertension, is a very common medical condition in which the pressure in the heart and arteries is higher than normal.  There are a number of conditions that cause this to happen such as kidney diseases, adrenal gland diseases, brain injuries, but the most common type of hypertension is called essential hypertension.  It’s another way of saying we don’t know why.  Predisposition can increase the chances of some people developing hypertension at some point in their lives, but often times weight gain and poor food choices such as salt-laden foods can make this a certainty for many people.

What are the symptoms?

Hypertension is often called the “silent killer” because there are no symptoms.  A person can go their entire life never knowing that they had hypertension.  Others discover it only after suffering a heart attack or stroke, two common end results of prolonged untreated hypertension.

Can it be treated?

Mild cases may respond to just diet and exercise, but usually hypertension requires pharmaceutical assistance.

How can MCare M.D. help?
