Telemedicine Q & A

What is telemedicine?

Telemedicine allows you to have a virtual visit with your doctor via your computer, smartphone, or tablet. A telemedicine appointment with Dr. Sargeant will allow her to:

  • Discuss any symptoms you’ve been experiencing
  • View certain parts of your body, like your face and throat
  • Educate you on different treatment options
  • Order prescriptions to your pharmacy

A telemedicine visit at Monrovia Internal Medicine & Primary Care gives you almost all of the same benefits of a traditional, in-office visit, without the hassle of getting to the office.

Why should I schedule a telemedicine visit?

Sometimes Dr. Sargeant will need to see you in person to make a diagnosis or provide treatment, but in some cases, a telemedicine visit may be the better option, not just the more convenient one. For example, if your child is showing flu symptoms, you may be concerned by the idea of driving them to the clinic for diagnosis, potentially exposing their weakened immune system to further bugs; not to mention the risk of your child infecting others. A telemedicine visit allows you to bypass these steps and still get your child the evaluation they need.

Further benefits of telemedicine visits include:

  • Bypassing wait times at the office
  • Allowing you to stay comfortable, calm, and relaxed
  • Allowing you to more easily work the appointment into your schedule
  • Avoiding potentially long drives from your home to the clinic

Telemedicine appointments are completely secure, so you can be confident that your information is all safe as you have your evaluation, and that you’re getting the same quality care you would in the office.

Will I need an in-person follow-up after a telemedicine appointment?

It depends on what your symptoms are and on how quickly you begin to recover. If your recovery takes a while, Dr. Sargeant may ask to see you as soon as you feel well enough to come into the office. This is usually done to evaluate the progress you’ve made and determine the effects treatment has had on your symptoms. In other cases, like when your symptoms clear up quickly and without complication, it may not be necessary.
